Ah, #Megxit – the hashtag that trended worldwide when Harry and Meghan decided to step down from Royal duty.
This was a tough blow for the British people, many of whom would give an arm and a leg to commit themselves to a life of handshaking, public appearances, and pretending that royal bloodlines are a legitimate means of passing on power in 2020.
As with most things, the exit was blamed on Meghan, who has had a rough time of it since joining the Royal Family. Take a look at the difference between how she and Kate were represented in the media for evidence of this.
Now, as the couple settles into their new life in America, information has come to light that suggest Harry might have been the instigator of the move from the start.
At least that’s what yet another mysterious and unnamed “insider” says.
Here’s The CUT:
The Sun cites a “publishing insider,” who reportedly told the outlet that the upcoming biography of the Duke and Duchess, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, will correct the record.
“That word ‘Megxit’ in particular has always angered Prince Harry,” the source allegedly said. “It gives the impression that the decision to walk away from the Royal Family was Meghan’s.”
Given that “the insider” spoke with The Sun, this should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Further reporting via Cosmopolitan:
The reality is Harry drove that decision. The book will make that clear and explain why it had to happen. The truth is Harry had been unhappy for a long, long time. He wanted to move in the direction that they did and had been considering it for more than a year. Meghan supported Harry’s decision.
But there was more than one occasion where she asked him if he was certain it was what he wanted. And she always made it clear she would support him in whatever he did.
We’ll know for sure when Finding Freedom, an upcoming Sussex biography hits the shelves on August 11, reportedly with Meghan and Harry’s cooperation.
#Haxit? #Hexit? Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
