If you’re talking about sporting falls from grace, Oscar Pistorius probably leads the pack.
In the chasing pack, and no doubt cheating to gain every single extra inch he can, is Lance Armstrong, whose hero to zero story has been well documented from the outside looking in.
Yes, Lance granted Oprah Winfrey an interview a few years back, but that seemed like a PR damage control exercise.
Perhaps the new 30 for 30: Lance is much of the same, or perhaps the disgraced cyclist may finally open up about what really went on behind the scenes.
Here’s Decider:
Lance follows Armstrong’s story starting with his youth in Texas and his battle with testicular cancer in his 20s. The documentary remembers his cycling victories and rise to fame, but also examines his involvement in one of the biggest doping scandals of sports history, and the aftermath that followed…
[Director Marina] Zenovich’s film hears from figures close to Armstrong, who reveal their thoughts about the cyclist and why he chose to do what he did in his career…
Lance will air following the end of The Last Dance, the Michael Jordan documentary that’s been dominating Sunday nights on ESPN. The network bumped their Armstrong doc up — along with other 30 For 30 features — earlier than planned in an effort to keep sports fans entertained without any live programming to turn to during the coronavirus pandemic.
If you haven’t yet watched The Last Dance, do yourself a favour. There’s no denying it is a marketing exercise for the Michael Jordan brand, but it’s also an incredible look into the mindset of a winner, and the inner workings of a sports team environment.
You don’t need to know about, or even like, basketball to appreciate the story it tells.
The trailer for Lance:
“I’m gonna tell you my truth” – Lance’s words.
The four-hour doccie will air in two parts on ESPN, on May 24 and May 31, and hopefully it ends up on South African screens shortly after airing.
As mentioned previously, ESPN has some bumper viewing lined up for those suffering from a lack of live sports:

If those are anything near as good as The Last Dance, keep them coming.
