Many truly terrifying thriller or horror films have one thing in common.
They take the ordinary and turn it on its head.
In the critically acclaimed Get Out, for example, some of the most terrifying scenes are outwardly innocuous, but draw on our understanding of social dynamics to build tension.
Most of us know of or have experienced some level of ‘road rage’. For the reasonable person, this usually means shouting in the car, even though nobody can hear you.
For the needlessly aggressive among us, road rage can get nasty.
Russell Crowe’s Unhinged takes road rage and turns it up to 11.
Vanity Fair describes the film, which was directed by Derrick Borte, as about “an unnamed man who engages in a high-speed duel with a single-mom who provokes his rage after blasting her horn at him”.
The trailer says it all:
They’re hoping to make Unhinged the first film back in theatres once lockdowns are lifted, and it’s due for release in US theatres on July 1, although that’s subject to change.
In the meantime, maybe consider laying off that hooter a touch whilst on the road.
