It’s that time of the year again, when we start taking stock of the richest people in the world across various industries.
Then we cry a little over our two-minute noodles.
The latest list to hit the media is the list of the top 20 richest musicians in the UK, as a precursor to the release of the Sunday Times Rich List this coming weekend.
Spoiler alert – most of them are men and almost all of those men have been knighted, with the exception being Rihanna.
Take it away, Sky News:
Robert Watts, who compiles the list, says if [Rihanna] stays in the UK she could well rise to the top.
“Rihanna typifies the seismic change we’ve seen in the rich list in recent years,” he said.
“Once dominated by inherited wealth, the bulk of our 1,000 entries are now self-made people with modest and even troubled starts in life who are driven to work exceptionally hard.
Let’s get down to the top five:
1. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (£800 million)
After topping the list alone in 2019, his fortune has dropped from £820 million to £800 million for the 2020 list, placing him in a tie with Sir Paul McCartney.
1. Sir Paul McCartney (£800 million)
McCartney’s wealth has grown from £750 million to £800 million from last year, thanks to 29 concerts, his new album Egypt Station, and his first children’s book, Hey Grandude!
It’s like ‘Hey Jude’, but it’s ‘Grandude’…geddit?
3. Rihanna (£468 million)
Rihanna is new to the list, so there’s no point of comparison from the previous year’s rankings.
The 32-year-old singer, originally from Barbados, qualifies for the list for the first time after her surprise move to London.
4. Sir Elton John (£360 million)
Sir Elton’s wealth is up £40 million from last year.
5. Sir Mick Jagger (£285 million)
Sir Mick also saw a £10 million increase in his net worth.
The rest of the top 10 for your consideration:
Wait, is that Michael Flatley as in ‘The Lord of the Dance’?
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, behold:
That was over a decade ago. Google tells me he’s still performing and judging by his place on the rich list, doing very well for himself.
Wonders never cease.
