The lockdown has had a noticeably weird affect on society.
People who have never baked a day in their lives are discovering their ovens, baking everything, and sharing it on social media.
It started with banana bread.
I don’t know if people stockpiled the fruit during the great panic buy of 2020, or just followed the trend, but the damn things were everywhere.
It was only a matter of time until we moved out of the realm of baked goods into the perfect accompaniment for them – coffee.
Open Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, and you’ll find that dalgona coffee has dethroned the humble banana bread.
Per CNET:
There are a lot of right ways and very few wrong ones to make dalgona coffee, the fluffy, picture-perfect drink that’s taken over the internet, and also CNET staffers’ kitchens.
We made over a dozen variations of the whipped coffee drink, itself inspired by a South Korean honeycomb toffee by the same name. In coffee form, it turns into a multilayered drink that’s as photogenic as it is tasty.
There’s no harm in trying new things (although personally, I prefer a superb roast, over instant coffee), so if you’re keen to Instagram your coffee, have at it.
What you’ll need
The YouTube tutorial will guide you through the process:
Seems simple enough, right?
Nope – apparently this can easily go pear-shaped if you don’t get the whipping time just right, or decide to make your health a priority and substitute some of the ingredients.
I’ll let Twitter tell you all about it:
If your attempts at a dalgona coffee are accompanied by the hashtag #FAIL on Twitter, you’ll be happy to know that Terbodore Coffee Roasters is delivering.
This means two things.
First, you aren’t required to make the instant stuff anymore, and therefore don’t have to find ways to make it palatable. Secondly, they’ll bring the deliciousness to your door, so no need to leave the house.
Treat yourself to one of their limited edition roasts. They’re simple to make, and even better to sip while you laugh at dalgona fails on social media.
Visit the Terbodore website to stock up.
