Two films stand out when one thinks of tornados.

The first is The Wizard of Oz, which ensured that ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ would get stuck in the heads of generations to follow.

The second is Twister, the mid-90s drama that chronicles one woman’s struggle to get over her dad’s death, while trying to finalise her divorce. She also chases storms.

The latter was the second-highest-grossing film of 1996.

Neither of these come close to the real thing, evident in the footage of a recent tornado that ripped through Madill, Oklahoma, last week.

According to Newsweek, the footage “offers a small glimpse at what it might be like to sit in a tornado’s path”.

The two-and-a-half-minute video was captured by a man [Pecos Hank] in his car, who started filming as a twister approached from the distance behind a group of trees.

“We’re kind of inside of it,” he can be heard saying. “Oh, it’s close. Oh, it’s close.”

The man who filmed the video was lucky to make it out in one piece, as the tornado changes path and heads off into the distance, leaving a rainbow in its wake.

Six people are reported to have died as a result of the storm, including two in Madill, three in Texas, where another twister hit, and one in Woodworth, Louisiana.

According to Accuweather, more than 100 tornadoes struck the southern states over the weekend, including a record-breaking twister in Mississippi that was over two miles wide.

Scary stuff.
