Tonight, at 8:30PM, President Cyril Ramaphosa will once again address the nation, as we edge closer to the end of April, and our national lockdown.
Whilst his previous appearance, where he extended the lockdown period to 35 days, was largely well-received, events that have unfolded since then have raised questions about our government’s handling of the lockdown in our most vulnerable communities.
It doesn’t help when ANC members themselves have shown such staggering stupidity, and hypocrisy, while citizens suffer.
As for tonight’s address, this from a statement to the media, released by the Presidency earlier today:
…Ramaphosa will address the nation this evening – Tuesday, 21 April 2020 – on additional economic and social relief measures that form part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President’s address flows from recent deliberations at Cabinet, the National Coronavirus Command Council, the President’s Coordinating Council, and the National Economic Development and Labour Council, among others.
As we know, these things often kick off later than the time given, so there may be some delay before the feed below goes live.
While you wait, you can read some practical solutions to ending the lockdown, take a look at how ‘sextortionists’ are preying on South Africans stuck at home, and kiss that Woolies roast chicken goodbye.
Over to you, Cyril:
