You’ve seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, right?
Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, and more?
Directed by Quentin Tarantino?
If you have, then good, we may continue.
That movie focused on fame and success in late 1960s Los Angeles, but Netflix’s latest series, Hollywood, is rewinding the clock a little further back.
This from IndieWire:
The show, starring [producer Ryan] Murphy alums including Broadway icon Patti LuPone, Darren Criss, and Dylan McDermott, is described as “follow[ing] a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown — no matter the cost.”
Starting at the Golden Tip Gas Station, the series looks to be starting out by following Scotty Bowers’ unproven accounts of working in a gas station on Hollywood Boulevard that “serviced” numerous celebrities, many of whom were hiding their sexuality…
The series presents an alternative version of history wherein actors and writers of color are more openly part of the Hollywood studio system.
Murphy is currently a bit of a Netflix darling, and already has The Politician airing on the streaming giant. In addition, he is working on a spin-off series that revolves around One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest villain Nurse Ratched.
That’s all down the line, so let’s get back to Hollywood and the trailer:
This one hits Netflix on May 1, so still a bit of a wait.
For now, pass the time watching The Innocence Files and After Life, season two, which drops this Friday, April 24.
