It’s been a while since we’ve featured anything from Britain’s Got Talent, and this time there’s a local twist.
South African magicians may well recognise the names Brendon Peel and Li Lau, with the two making headlines when they performed the trick you’ll see below at last year’s National Arts Festival in Makhanda.
They didn’t quite get the timing or execution right, and Li ended up being shot in the head with a crossbow. Luckily, his injuries weren’t serious, and the show goes on.
Good times.
Now they’re back, reports Channel24, and they’re giving it another shot:
The pair auditioned for the British reality TV show in January 2020, with the clip finally being released to the public on Tuesday on the official Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) YouTube channel as an “unseen” video.
Speaking to Channel24, Brendon tells us it has always been a dream of his to perform on an international platform like BGT. “I think most performers would like to perform for Simon Cowell at one point or another,” he says, adding that the opportunity to be part of the show “arose out of nowhere”.
For their audition, Brendon (a magician and mentalist) and Li (an escape artist) performed an act which combined both of their skills.
Without giving too much away, let’s just say it was touch and go:
It’s not yet known whether or not the duo made it through the next round.
If they did, I reckon they give the same trick another try, except Li changes places with Simon Cowell, and Peel does the Rubik’s Cube blindfolded.
Just to spice things up a little.
