With large gatherings prohibited, and a massive chunk of the world in under some or other form of lockdown, musicians are turning their talents to online concerts to raise funds for efforts to combat the coronavirus.
It started with a series of videos posted on Instagram, and morphed into shows that you can stream live on YouTube.
The Together at Home online concert series has played host to some of the biggest names in the business, like Sir Elton John, who invited his famous friends to perform in a show from their living rooms.
Sir Elton hosted the aforementioned show, and now he’s ready to perform along with a cast of the biggest names in music as part of One World: Together At Home – a special curated show in collaboration with Lady Gaga and premiering Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Here’s some info from Global Citizen, the organisation behind the concert:
On Tuesday, the organization released a new list of participants, including Alicia Keys, Amy Poehler, Awkwafina, Camila Cabello, Céline Dion, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, LL COOL J, Lupita Nyong’o, Matthew McConaughey, Oprah Winfrey, Pharrell Williams, Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Usher, Victoria Beckham, and more.
They’ll be joined by South African acts Black Coffee and Sho Madjozi.
Also, they weren’t kidding when they said “and more”:
Jimmy Fallon will be hosting the event. He (and a number of other celebrities) was recently dressed down by Lady Gaga for suggesting that he was in the same boat as everyone else in the world, despite glaring differences between his economic status and that of the average person.
All must be forgiven if he’s hosting the show. Fallon will be joined by Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, and puppets from Sesame Street will also be helping out.
They almost nailed it.
Head on over to the Global Citizen YouTube account to tune in on Saturday, or to watch past performances.
