Five Creepy Things Found In Storage Units

While most of the world uses storage units to free up some much-needed living space, others have more nefarious plans.

There’s a reason that shows like Storage Hunters do so well.

I’m not usually a fan of American reality television, but waiting to see what people had left behind in abandoned containers was addictive.

The show taps into that curious and explorative side that we all share.

There’s a downside to curiosity, though, and for some opening a storage unit wasn’t the adventure they were anticipating.

RentCafe put together a list of the weirdest stuff discovered in abandoned storage units around the world:

The Top Three:

1. An Electric Chair

This creepy piece of history was discovered at Oz Moving & Storage in New York. It isn’t a prop, it’s an actual execution device – one of the many used by several US states before technology and legal changes made them outdated.

2. Cans of Cockroaches

A storage unit full of canned cockroaches – WHY?

I don’t want to see them in the wild, let alone hang on to and then can hundreds of the horrible creatures. This nightmare fuel comes to you from Australia.

3. Deadly Snakes

Someone stored a number of live poisonous snakes in a storage unit. The unit was opened when the payments stopped. This is both weird and cruel because the snakes were effectively left to die.

4. A Jar of Gallstones

Most people are happy to be rid of gallstones. They’re incredibly painful. For one individual, they became a keepsake worth storing away – a whole jar of them.

5. Spy Equipment

Someone engaged in legitimate work is probably not going to store their equipment in a remote storage unit. If that spy equipment could talk, I’m sure it would tell some terrifying tales.

People really do hang on to (and then abandon) some strange things reasons that I’m sure we’ll never fully understand.

Open the average storage unit and you’ll find excess furniture or boxes of standard everyday stuff tucked away following a spring clean.

If that’s more your vibe, and you’re in need of somewhere to store your (ordinary) stuff, we suggest using Stor-Age.

You have some time on your hands, and I’ve heard that decluttering your home can be “mind-altering”, or even “life-extending”.

Added bonus – Stor-Age is offering 2OV readers 50% off their first month’s rent, so take a look at their location list and find an option near you.
