All anyone has been able to talk about for the past few weeks is Tiger King – a wild true-crime adjacent series about a group of horrible big cat breeders who make some very poor life choices.
It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. It’s also worth looking into what they left out of the story.
Netflix has been ahead of the pack lately when it comes to true-crime. Don’t F**ck With Cats was mind-blowing.
Other releases like Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez had the critics buzzing. Then there’s The Pharmacist – a bleak but fascinating look at the lengths that a father went to find his son’s killer.
In short, the streaming giant has figured out that we all have an insatiable appetite for all things crime-related (don’t give it too much thought).
The latest offering for you to binge online looks at crime from the other side of a conviction.
Over to The Daily Beast for more on The Innocence Files:
DNA testing was arguably the greatest revolutionary development in the history of modern criminal justice, and not only because it allowed law enforcement and district attorneys to accurately link suspects to crimes.
As The Innocence Files illustrates, it also led to the exoneration of numerous people who’d been put behind bars for offenses they hadn’t committed; and in doing so, it shined a spotlight on many of the failings—be it bad science or bad-faith cops and prosecutors—that continue to plague our investigative and judicial systems.
Take in the trailer:
I’ll be adding that to my ‘watch list’ immediately.
The show debuts tomorrow, April 15.
