I don’t really get the British and their reverence towards the Queen.
But hey, you came here to listen to Her Majesty’s rare video address to the nation, delivered yesterday evening.
The message from the 93-year-old was prerecorded and called on her people to to “remain united and resolute” in order to overcome the coronavirus pandemic that has, at the time of writing, claimed just short of 5 000 lives.
Filmed inside Windsor Castle, and hopefully a safe distance from Prince Charles, Sky News called the address “a deeply moving and personal message”.
More moving and personal than the impassioned pleas of NHS workers begging Brits to stay inside? OK, then.
Here’s Queenie, with only the fifth address of its kind during her 68-year reign:
For those who worry about her health:
The message was recorded in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, only after special advice was given by the royal household’s medical team to protect the Queen and adhere to the current social distancing guidelines.
Only one cameraman was allowed in the room wearing gloves and a mask.
Other technical staff were made to work in a separate room using monitors and speakers.
Great – next get the NHS the masks, protective gear, and ventilators that they need to save lives.
