When President Ramaphosa addressed the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) ahead of the 21-day lockdown, he urged them to take a peaceful approach when enforcing the new rules and regulations in place to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Since then, SANDF has been making headlines, and not always the good kind. In Soweto, footage emerged of SAPS and SANDF members seemingly punishing residents for breaking the lockdown laws.
Numerous other reports of brutality have surfaced, mostly in the more disadvantaged areas of the country.
More recently, a video has been doing the rounds showing a SANDF vehicle crashing and rolling near a petrol station. This time it’s unclear who is at fault, with some speculating that the Casspir was trying to avoid a collision with a minibus taxi.
The video was shared on Twitter, and by South Africa Live on Facebook, and quickly went viral.
You can watch it below:
MyBroadband reached out to SANDF for comment, and a spokesperson confirmed that a Casspir had been involved in an accident near a Sasol petrol station in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. No one was hurt.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.
