Look At This Map: More Than A Third Of The Planet Is Under Lockdown

A map showing all of the countries under full or partial lockdown is a reminder that we're all in this together.

More and more countries are implementing new laws and restrictions in an attempt to get a handle on the spread of the coronavirus.

At midnight tonight, South Africa will be joining the three billion people – more than a third of the world’s population (around 7,8 billion) – who are already under full or partial lockdown.

The Daily Mail gathered all the information they could about the global lockdowns and used it to create a visual representation of what the world looks like now.

Before we get to that map, here’s the information you need to make sense of it:

Countries in red have announced restrictions on movement of all or most of their citizens around the clock in response to the virus.

Those in amber have restricted the movement of only some citizens or for only part of the day, such as evening curfews.

Those in green have either light restrictions or no restrictions on their own citizens, but may have brought in other international measures such as border closures and flight bans.

Take it in:

The epicentre of the virus, which started in Wuhan, China, has moved from Asia to America and Europe. Pictures of empty city streets emphasise the drastic measures that have been put in place to limit its spread.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to keep up to date with accurate information about COVID-19, which you’ll find by following this link.

Then, to take your mind off things, do some good in the world, and stand the chance to win something amazing.

We’re all in this together.
