Every country is fighting its own battles, and we are beginning to see our own coronavirus case curve headed in a very sharp upward direction.
Just a reminder that the lifestyle changes we see now will only affect that curve in around two weeks, so don’t lose hope amidst these plans for the long run.
In the UK, things are really taking a turn for the worse, and as of yesterday, there were 9 529 infections and 465 deaths.
You can count Prince Charles among the 9 529, by the way.
That may not sound all that bad when compared to the likes of Italy and Spain, but the curve says otherwise:
Frightening, and some of the pleas for Britons to stay indoors from NHS workers and other healthcare professionals have been heartbreaking.
Any South African who feels aggrieved at the fact that they cannot go for a jog, or walk their dog outside of their property, or buy booze during our lockdown, should reach out to a healthcare professional for a sense of perspective.
As the UK braces for the worst to come, the ExCeL exhibition centre in London prepares to turn into what has been dubbed “the coronavirus super-hospital” by some news outlets.
Here’s a look around the facility, which is only the bare bones at this stage:
The centre has just shy of 90 000 square metres of space spread across two large event halls, each with 22 drive-in doorways.
It’s most commonly used for exhibitions and conferences, has hosted a G20 summit, and was one of the hubs during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
More from the Telegraph:
It is understood the military were drafted in to help following a Military aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) request due to the fact that they would be able to plan the logistics of setting up a huge facility in the space of a few days…
It is understood the military will also help to convert other sites across the UK at a later date.
It comes after football pitches and cricket grounds were cited as potential spaces for further field hospitals to be set up on.
The hospital’s completion cannot come soon enough.
