The new iPad Pro has been announced and it’s a thing of beauty.
Apple has managed to take a classic design and elevate it to new heights.
According to The Verge, both the 11-inch and 12,9-inch iPads look identical to last year’s models, but there’s a new processor and new camera system inside them both.
The keyboard is probably the most noticeable new feature.
The keyboard unfolds and elevates the iPad to a more comfortable viewing position, as you can see above. It also has a trackpad on it. Apple says, “Rather than copying the experience from macOS®, trackpad support has been completely reimagined for iPad. As users move their finger across the trackpad, the pointer elegantly transforms to highlight user interface elements.”
You can see examples of that in the video below:
I’m pretty sure Seth predicted this a while ago. He ditched his computer in favour of an iPad Pro in August last year, already.
The advert for the new iPad also riffs on the future (or lack thereof) of the computer:
I’m sold. I need this in my life.
Correction – I really need this in my life. The Verge goes on to talk about how the new iPad Pro isn’t all work and no play.
You might remember this nifty little game from last year:
Well buckle in, because one of the new features on the new iPad is a LIDAR scanner, which will let you turn your living room into a game of ‘Hot Lava’.
This game was a firm favourite when I was a kid, although my parents probably aged a few years watching us jump around on the furniture and coffee tables. Now you can hop around from the safety of your screen.
The game is a clever way to show off the capabilities of the LIDAR scanner. A player scans a living room with an iPad, and the app generates hot lava on the floor and platforms for the game’s character to jump on in AR.
Alternately, you can use it to try out new decor in your living room before making a purchase, but why do that when you can access your inner child and turn your livingroom into a gamescape.
You’ll be able to confidently yell “the floor is lava!” later this year, when Apple releases the feature.
In the meantime, you can get your hands on an all-new iPad Pro at Digicape, South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer.
