Cases of the coronavirus are on the rise in South Africa.

We have 85 confirmed cases at the time of writing.

This is up significantly from the 61 confirmed cases announced when the president addressed the country on Sunday evening. 

The country is encouraged to keep calm, help each other out and stay at home as far as possible.

March 17, 2020:

• A 59-year-old female with no international travel history.
• A 5-year-old male with no international travel history.
• A 3-year-old male with no international travel history.
• A 48-year-old male who travelled to Dubai.

March 15, 2020:

• A 34-year-old male who had travelled to the UK.

March 14, 2020:

• A 47-year-old male who had travelled to Switzerland.

March 13, 2020:

• A 79-year-old male reported having travelled to Greece and Italy.
• A 52-year-old male travelled to Switzerland.

March 12, 2020:

• A 38-year-old male from Durban who lives in Turkey, was visiting family in South Africa. He had travelled to the UK and returned to SA on 7 March.

March 13, 2020: 

• A 40-year-old male who travelled to Portugal. He returned on 7 March.

March 9, 2020: 

• A 45-year-old male who had recently travelled to Italy.
• A 38-year old male who also had recently travelled to Italy.
• A couple who had also travelled to Italy.

All four confirmed cases were part of a travel group from which the first positive case in SA originated.

March 8, 2020:

• The wife of the first diagnosed patient, she had also travelled to Italy.

March 5, 2020:

• A 38-year-old male who travelled to Italy and returned 1 March. He was the country’s first confirmed positive case.

March 17, 2020:

• A 21-year-old female with no travel history.
• A 34-year-old male with no international travel history.
• A 26-year-old female with no international travel history.
• A 32-year-old female with no international travel history.
• A 45-year-old male who had travelled to Belgium, UK, France and the US.
• A 37-year-old male who had travelled to the UK.
• A 54-year-old female who had travelled to the USA.
• A 52-year-old male who had travelled to the UK.
• A 25-year-old male who travelled to the UK.
• A 52-year-old female who had travelled to Italy.
• A 59-year-old male who travelled to the UK and Dubai.
• A 57-year-old male who travelled to the USA.
• A 60-year-old male who travelled to the USA.
• A 37-year-old female who travelled to Italy and Dubai.

March 16, 2020:

• A 33-year-old who had travelled to Spain.
