It’s important to take a break from buying toilet paper and watching YouTube clips of President Ramaphosa’s speech to appreciate the simpler things that the internet has to offer.

A routine stop in Houston, Texas, turned into a wild ride when a red truck (the American word for ‘bakkie’) containing three criminals fled from US police officers.

The chase culminates in an impressive “pit manoeuvre”, a car chase technique used by officers and designed to trap suspects as they flee their vehicle.

According to The Intercept, this is how that works:

An officer pulls alongside a fleeing vehicle so that the officer’s front bumper is just ahead of the other vehicle’s back bumper. The officer matches the fleeing driver’s speed, gently touches — not rams — the other vehicle, and then makes a quick quarter turn of the wheel toward it. The other car then spins out safely to a stop.
