We know one thing for certain – the coronavirus does not discriminate. Not even the rich and famous are safe.
A handful of A-list celebrities have been infected with COVID-19, including Idris Elba of The Wire fame and Game of Thrones actor, Kristofer Hivju.
Elba spoke out to fans and friends in a video shared to social media, USA Today reported.
The 47-year-old star explained in the clip that he got tested for the virus after exposure to someone else who had recently tested positive.
Many are speculating that Elba may have been infected by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie.
Elba attended an event with the Canadian dignitaries a couple of days before his test, where he and Mrs. Trudeau took a friendly snap together. Soon after the meet-up, Sophie announced that she had contracted COVID-19.
I’ll let him tell you about it:
Elba’s wife, Sabrina, had not yet been tested at the time that the video was shared, but she appeared in the clip alongside her husband, offering support.
“She’s doing OK,” Elba reassured fans. “We’ve told our families, they’re very supportive. We’ve told our colleagues. Transparency is probably the best thing for this right now. If you’re feeling ill or feel like you should be tested or you’ve been exposed, do something about it. It’s really important.”
Hivju announced on Monday evening that he had also tested positive for coronavirus. The Game of Thrones star reiterated Elba’s call for caution during the pandemic:
“Please visit your country’s Center for Disease Control’s website, and follow the regulations for staying safe and protecting not just yourselves, but our entire community, and especially those at risk like the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions”.
Looks like we’re all in this together.
While it’s important to remain cautious, you can still have fun while practising social distancing, like holding a games night with your pet or taking advantage of Cape Town’s best takeaway cuisine.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
