Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has announced six more confirmed cases of coronavirus in South Africa, bringing the total up to 13.
This information comes after six more people tested positive for COVID-19, four of them are in Gauteng, one is in KwaZulu-Natal and one in the Western Cape.
EWN hasn’t specified where in the Western Cape the patient is located, but a source, who has asked to remain anonymous, has confirmed to 2OV, that the patient is in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs.
The 36-year-old male returned to South Africa on Monday March 9, having travelled to multiple countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey.
“All the patients have now been advised. Those who are symptomatic have started receiving treatment. Some of these patients are already in hospital while some, specifically those who are asymptomatic are in self-quarantine. Contact tracing has also started for all these cases,” Mkhize said in a statement.
Other confirmed cases include a 33-year-old woman who had travelled to Italy and returned to South Africa on March 1, a 34-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman who had travelled to Germany, and 57-year-old man who had travelled to Austria and Italy, all of whom tested positive in Joburg.
In KZN one additional case has been reported. The 40-year-old man had travelled to Portugal and returned to South Africa on March 7.
