I love a good war movie, although you do have to be in a certain kind of mood to watch them.
Dunkirk is a recent classic, as is Hacksaw Ridge, and when I’m in the mood for more death and destruction, I’ll get around to watching 1917.
War movie fans will want to add Greyhound to their list, with the trailer coming out earlier this week.
Starring Tom Hanks, who also wrote the screenplay (what can’t the man do?), the movie centres around a Navy commander on his first wartime assignment.
More below from IndieWire:
…in the early days of World War II, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the North Atlantic while being pursued by Nazi U-boats. Amid the treachery of the maritime battle at stake, Krause must also face his own demons and self-doubts as a newly minted commander.
The movie also stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“6 Underground”), Elisabeth Shue (last seen in “The Boys”), Stephen Graham (“Boardwalk Empire”), Rob Morgan (“Just Mercy”), and Karl Glusman (soon seen on FX on Hulu’s Alex Garland series “Devs”).
Greyhound is directed by Aaron Schneider, and some of the filming took place onboard an actual World War II ship, USS Kidd.
Off we go:
Drama on the high seas – count me in.
The film will be released on June 12, which should coincide nicely with the date we’re slated to move into an underground bunker to escape the coronavirus.
Relax, it’s a joke – please do not panic.
