Say it five times into the mirror, you coward.
Or don’t, because life really is stressful enough without some kind of murderous monster popping up and going on a rampage.
From the twisted, brilliant mind of Jordan Peele (that’s a track record of Get Out and Us to go on) comes a sequel to the 1992 classic, which was also called Candyman.
That’s just long enough between movies for your night terrors to subside and then return with a vengeance.
As you can see from the start of Peele’s trailer, the legend holds that anyone can summon Candyman by repeating his name five times while looking in a mirror.
The Verge with some basics:
The first trailer for Candyman, a “spiritual successor” to the 1992 movie of the same name and Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden,” brings artist Anthony McCoy (Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend Brianna (If Beale Street Could Talk’s Teyonah Parris) to the same Chicago community fans will remember from the first film.
There are some other similar beats to the film, including Tony Todd returning to reprise his role as the terrifying Candyman, but it’s clear that Peele and DaCosta will introduce a series of new spins to the original title.
I don’t think you need to know too much more in order to be suitably terrified:
If watching horrors is how you get your kicks, I’m happy for you. Hard pass from me, thanks.
Candyman opens in theatres on June 12, 2020.
