There’s a new drug doing the rounds, and this time, kids are getting their hands on it at the tuckshop.
‘Wiz’, an amphetamine, stimulates the central nervous system, and may not be an entirely new kind of drug, but authorities suspect that teens might be adding something to it to get goofed.
IOL reports that teens are smoking the stuff, which comes in a black sachet and is readily available over the counter at some tobacconists.
Sam Pillay of the Anti-Drug Forum based in Chatsworth, said he received a call from a principal at a high school in Merebank after a pupil collapsed.
“These drugs are extremely harmful for the youth and drug dealers are finding new ways of selling their product to youngsters. Someone said Wiz is used for horses but we aren’t sure of how true that is,” he said.
“We had people collapsing and some needing serious medical attention. Some even died from consuming drugs! It had no effect on some people too,” Pillay said.
Wiz, which you can see in the images above, bears the Herbology logo, but the company claims that they have nothing to do with this particular product.
The packaging also clearly states “not for human consumption”, which should be your first clue that you probably shouldn’t smoke it.
TimesLIVE also spoke to Pillay:
“We are now aware that it has taken this community by storm. It’s really terrible. I purchased this substance today from a tuckshop. I was told by community members that it is available everywhere,” he said.
The drug has been sent off for toxicology tests to determine its exact composition.
Wiz is supposed to have a marijuana-like effect with one difference – children are collapsing at school after smoking it.
Warn your kids, and hope for the best.
