Well, you know, that’s just like, uh, your opinion, man.
The 1990s were a weird and wonderful time, but we should all be thankful that 1998 gave us The Big Lebowski.
Led by Jeff Bridges, who played the titular role, and directed by the Coen brothers, it will always remain a classic, and there are so many scenes that stand out.
The scattering of the ashes is perhaps my favourite, but that takes nothing away from Jesus in the bowling alley.
Just so we’re all on the same page, we need to start here:
Jesus licks that bowling ball in the same way Tyson Fury licked Deontay Wilder’s blood.
I reckon they could create spin-off movies of just about every character from The Big Lebowski, but if you’ve ever wanted more Jesus in your life, you’re in luck.
The Jesus Rolls focuses on John Turturro’s character and his motley crew, reports Consequence Of Sound:
The Jesus Rolls is a non-stop delight, the kind of comedy that seems to exist simply to deliver the next line of dialogue or incongruous gag. It follows Jesus, his buddy Pete (Bobby Cannavale), and an amorous hairdresser named Marie (a never-better Audrey Tautou), as they lope from one theft and small time job to the next, encountering lowlifes of every denomination along the way. There’s no plot and very little character development, and more movies should be exactly like it.
You may have picked up that it’s a glowing review. To the trailer we go:
Sure, sign me up.
More from that review:
The Jesus Rolls is already one of this year’s most affecting pictures. It feels special, like a kind of prized trinket, a sun-dappled sexual fantasia, chased by the specter of death in pursuit of a life of leisure. The Jesus Rolls is a touching and singular work, a louche fantasy.
Other reviews have been less kind, with NOW calling it ‘god awful’ and saying it ” blights the resumés of everyone involved”.
I guess if you loved The Big Lebowski, and you’ve been desperately craving more of anything linked to the movie, this one will hit the spot.
The Jesus Rolls opens in US cinemas tomorrow.
