South Africa is still, thankfully, coronavirus-free, and health authorities aren’t taking any chances in their efforts to keep it that way.
If you want more information about the status of the virus, how it’s contracted, and which symptoms to look out for, the BBC put together a visual guide that explains things clearly.
In China, people are doing everything they can to avoid contact with the virus, and in some cases, their methods are a little odd.
Masks are a popular preventative measure which makes sense.
Then there’s the sudden uptick in inflatable costume sales.
Here’s The Daily Mail:
A Chinese man has dressed up as an astronaut to protect himself from the coronavirus while going out shopping.
The man, known by his surname Li, purchased the full-body costume online for ‘extra protection’ as the deadly disease sweeps through the country.
He said: ‘I thought the costume was adorable and it could protect me [from the virus].
He seems to be having a good time:
‘The astronaut’ isn’t the only outfit doing the rounds in China. A woman showed up to collect medication at a hospital, wearing a giraffe costume:
Both the astronaut and the giraffe were also wearing surgical masks for “double protection”, as Mr Li puts it.
Health experts have warned that the inflatable costumes won’t do anything to protect the wearer from coronavirus.
It does, however, add a little joy to an otherwise dire situation.
