Yesterday, Donald Trump touched down in India, and began by attending a rally with prime minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad.
If you want to win over an Indian crowd, referencing two of their greatest cricketers is a good place to start, so we can’t fault Trump for trying his luck.
Just the one problem – he didn’t quite nail the pronunciation of Sachin Tendulkar, although he did fare a little better with Virat Kohli.
With 110 000 people packed into the Motera Stadium, he went for it:
‘Soo-chin Tendul-kerr’ and ‘Virot Ko-lee’ it is.
He also bungled the pronunciation of Swami Vivekananda:
Gobhi called me Doland, so I will call Swami Vivekananda as … pic.twitter.com/l7EljcCok7

That chuckle at the end is classic.
BBC India felt the need to issue a correction of sorts:
As we well know, it’s not just Indian names he struggles with.
We will finish with Trevor Noah’s wrap of day one in India:
