The 2020 Academy Awards, or the Oscars to you and I, were dominated by the South Korean movie, Parasite.
Speaking of parasites, Donald Trump gave a rally last night in Colorado, and he just couldn’t help himself.
Rather than congratulate director Bong Joon-ho and the cast on making history by becoming the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture, Trump wondered aloud why they couldn’t just give it to Gone with the Wind.
That’s the 1939 movie set in a Georgia plantation, which has been criticised over the years for its depiction of relationships between black slaves and their white masters.
He then went on to call Brad Pitt “a little wise guy”, after Pitt’s comment about the impeachment trial at the Oscars. The crowd gave an awkward boo, which is probably due in part to the fact that many in the audience have spent the best part of 20 years salivating over the actor.
Melania included.
Let’s watch the sentient naartjie in action:
First, the foreigners took our jobs, and now they’re taking our Oscars!
Without a doubt, the world’s most sensitive snowflake.
When accepting the Golden Globe for best foreign-language film, Bong Joon-ho commented that “once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films”.
Let’s give credit to the studio that produced Parasite, then, for this cracking comeback:
Burn.
