In 1999, a movie came along that would forever change the entertainment landscape.
I’m talking about Office Space, although The Matrix also came out in 1999, which means it was one helluva year for filmmaking.
Did anybody ever think we would see a crossover that combined the plotlines from both, using deepfake technology? Probably not, but deepfake creator Ctrl Shift Face has done the hard yards and we are thankful.
Working together with visual effects artist Chris Ume, Ctrl Shift Face used some of the most iconic scenes from each movie to give us the fourth Matrix movie we deserve.
Gizmodo reports:
Not only was Gary Cole’s face swapped with Hugo Weaving’s (seeing Agent Smith’s glasses on Bill Lumbergh might be the highlight of this entire video) but Ron Livingston’s face was deepfaked to look like Keanu Reeves while voice actor and impersonator Allen Jones re-recorded all of Peter’s lines in the movie with Neo’s voice.
The final results are convincing enough that Hollywood should scrap all the work it’s done on The Matrix 4 and go this route instead.
Off you go on your wild blue pill ride, Neo:
It’s uncanny, right? Reminds me a little of that wild Bill Hader / Tom Cruise / Seth Rogen effort from a while back.
An added bonus is that Ume has given us a look behind the curtain at how the deepfake tech works, as well as the touchups needed to make the face swaps so damn convincing:
Keep them coming, Chris Ume and Ctrl Shift Face.
To finish, here’s a look at the actual trailer for Office Space, which is a must-watch for anybody who spends their workday hemmed inside a cubicle:
