I’ve spent many an hour daydreaming about banging one into the back of the net at St. James’ Park for my beloved Newcastle, and the wild celebrations that would follow.
A one-arm-raised sprint to the corner, à la the great Alan Shearer, or maybe the Spider-Man celebrations that made Jonás Gutiérrez so popular, are my top two options.
Then again, if I took my cue from our current strike force, there would be no goals to celebrate, but let’s move along before I’m forced to recall this weekend’s drubbing at the hands of Arsenal.
During Sunday’s Irish Championship match between Portadown FC and Queen’s University, Adam Salley thought he had bagged a goal when he cooly slotted the ball past the opposition keeper.
Salley hadn’t factored in the torrid goalmouth conditions, though, made worse by the barracking the stadium took during Storm Dennis.
Thankfully, teammate Chris Lavery was there to mop up his mess, and the ball still found its way over the line:
Still better than that time Mario Balotelli snapped an on-pitch selfie to celebrate a goal.
Don’t feel too sorry for Salley, who went on to bag a second-half hattrick as his team ran out 7-1 winners, and went 10 points clear at the top of the table.
