Right, what are we going to get outraged about today?
I mean, people grow weary of moaning about Eskom and SAA and the failing economy and violent crime, so what can we vent about that doesn’t end in actual, genuine despair?
Lay’s chips – target acquired.
This story begins with a tweet by Lay’s South Africa, in response to a query, back on February 3:
Say what now?
The end of an era, sure, but there are plenty of salty tears being shed over this one.
Food24 compiled some reactions:
Angst! Anger! Rage, rage against the dying of the salt & vinegar chip!
Even Ghanaians are sticking the knife in.
In amongst the pits of despair, Critical Hit’s Darryn Bonthuys offers a different perspective:
Lay’s still has the newer and far superior Sweet and Smokey American Barbeque flavour to treat your tastebuds with, an infinitely better way to consume life-sustaining matter that isn’t seasoned with absolute misery and regret of a seaside variety.
I know that taste is subjective to all, but let’s be real: Ain’t nobody going to miss Lay’s Salt ‘n Vinegar chips, a hill that I am more than prepared to die on today.
Darryn’s words, not mine.
To all of those who have been affected by the loss of the Lay’s Salt & Vinegar flavour, we offer thoughts and prayers.
We will rebuild.
