Usually, the worst part of a haircut is making awkward small talk with the hairdresser.
For those getting a trim in Laudium, Pretoria, on January 31, that was probably the least of their worries, after two men carrying guns entered the Al Madina barbershop.
Rather than meekly hand over what the crooks were after, one customer fought back, shooting and killing one of the gunmen.
He was pretty quick out of the starting blocks, too, leaping up and pulling a gun out from under his gown, before opening fire.
CCTV footage was widely shared across social media, although News24’s video has blurred the moment the would-be robber was shot:
According to police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, there were two other gunmen waiting outside.
The man who was shot in his upper body died on the scene, whilst the other three men escaped on foot.
Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted business robbery, and have urged anyone with more information to contact 0860 010 111.
