That somewhat dopey-looking face up there, with its mixture of guilt and nausea, is Pepper.
Pepper is a pointer.
Pointers are known for their amicable personalities. They’re very sweet, but very active. As natural hunting dogs, they need plenty of time outdoors to run around, or else they can get restless.
When pointers get restless, they chew, bark, or eat things that shouldn’t be eaten.
Pepper must have been feeling very restless, because he decided to eat his owner’s engagement ring.
According to IOL, Pepper was admitted to the Valley Farm Animal Hospital in Pretoria after the ring-eating incident.
Unable to extract the ring from his stomach, vets instead used a less invasive method by administering medicine to induce vomiting.
That’s why Pepper looks so dopey in the picture above, which the Valley Farm Animal Hospital posted on Facebook, along with Pepper’s x-rays and a description of events as they unfolded.
Shortly after the meds kicked in, Pepper threw up and the ring was recovered.
A closer look at that ring:
And finally, the recovered ring:
You’re still a good boy, Pepper, and that’s quite a whopper of a ring to get down.
Since the post went live, it has amassed thousands of likes and shares, and boasts in excess of 3 000 comments, mostly from people keen to send love to Pepper and share their own ‘naughty pointer’ stories:
People also shared their ‘dog stole my jewellery’ stories:
That cat sounds like a boss.
After all of that, I think Pepper has earned a treat.
