When our resident movie expert, SPL!NG gave Parasite a near-perfect nine out of 10, we knew it had well and truly delivered the goods.
Fast forward a few months, and the movie has made history by becoming the first-ever non-English language film to win the ‘best picture’ Oscar.
That wasn’t the movie’s only success, as it also won the award for best international feature, best director, and best original screenplay, making it four wins out of six nominations on the night.
Given that it’s a foreign-language film, and so many folks are too tired/distracted by their phones to pay close attention, I know there are many of you out there who haven’t seen Parasite yet.
Consider those four Oscar wins the kick up the backside you need to make that happen.
Here’s a quick synopsis via CNBC:
The Korean-language film is about the Kim family — mother, father and two adult children — who are poor and unemployed. All four family members hatch a plan to become employed by the Park family, although the Parks are unaware that the Kims are related. Things go awry when the former housekeeper returns to the Park mansion to check on her husband, who has been hiding in the basement bunker to avoid loan sharks, and discovers the Kims secret.
To the trailer we go:
Put the phone down, try and stay awake past 9PM, and pay attention to what is a superb piece of cinema.
