Using public toilets is stressful at the best of times.
At home, you have the luxury of familiar surroundings, and you can also be certain (I hope) that a stranger isn’t going to try and sneak a peek while you go about your business.
In a public toilet, on the other hand, you run the risk of some creep on his hands and knees, peering in under the toilet cubicle door, which is exactly what happened to Dezra Ore, 20, at the Mall of Africa in Midrand on Friday afternoon.
He told his story to News24:
Ore said he saw the man standing in the bathroom but paid little attention to him as he was in desperate need of a toilet. Once inside the cubicle, he added, he saw a lot of movement in front of his door.
“I was like, what is going on? So, I took out my phone and started recording.” He only realised what had happened after watching the clip.
“In that moment, I was instantly shocked. I couldn’t even use the toilet anymore.”
After spending half an hour hiding in the cubicle, Ore returned to the shop where he works, shaken up.
Here’s the footage his phone captured:
Complete creep behaviour.
Ore says he thinks the mall should increase security at some of the more secluded bathrooms:
Mall of Africa told News24 in a statement on Friday it was aware of the video that was shared on Twitter.
“As a centre that prioritises visitors’ safety, we have attempted to contact the individual to allow us to investigate the matter further,” it said.
On Sunday morning, Ore said the mall had still not been in touch with him.
According to Ore’s Twitter account, that appears to still be the case.
