Last year, in June, we reported on the sophisticated planning that often goes into a cash-in-transit heist.
From inside information to the number of criminals needed to make up a crew, it’s scary how much background work precedes a hit on a CIT van.
The most recent attack seems less sophisticated, but still effective.
The Marabastad Market Stalls in Pretoria became the site of a heist on January 29, when robbers ambushed a G4S security guard who was leaving Goolam’s Cash & Carry with money bags.
News24 with more:
Video footage of the incident shows the robbers running down a side alley, guns blazing, before holding up the guard and demanding the money. The guard hands over the bag, before running for cover.
Check it out:
Scary stuff – especially the guy randomly firing his gun in all directions.
That being said, why was there nobody watching what was happening while the guard was loading the money into the van?
It really shouldn’t be this easy to grab the money and run.
Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili told News24 that four men with pistols and rifles had overpowered the security guard.
“The suspects then robbed him of the cash and fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger. No injuries were reported,” she said.
So far no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
I think that’s code for ‘sorry, they got away’.
