Given that someone has died, we’ll refrain from making any of the more obvious jokes here.
This past weekend, a 19-year-old man has died, and a number of people were taken to hospital, after taking MDMA pills with the distinctive ‘Red Bull’ branding on them.
During a drum and bass night at The Assembly in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire (below), the teenager became “seriously ill”, and later died in hospital.
More from the Independent:
A 22-year-old woman was among those admitted to hospital and remains in a serious condition, police said…
Warwickshire Police have warned anyone who may have bought or ingested the drugs to seek medical attention.
Detective Superintendent Pete Hill said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the teenager, and specialist officers are currently supporting them.
“At this time, we believe the tablet taken is a red hexagonal pill named ‘Red Bull’, which is believed to be MDMA, and we are concerned there may be others who have also taken this.
“Whilst the cause of death has not been confirmed and we are keeping an open mind as to whether the substance caused a bad reaction or an overdose, we would advise anyone who has also taken it to seek medical advice.”
Hill also advised that anybody in possession of such pills destroys them, as well as checking in with friends who may have taken a ‘Red Bull’.
It is not yet known whether or not the drugs were bought on the premises, or brought in from elsewhere.
The ‘Red Bull’ drug has also been found in Texas, according to DanceSafe, a public health organisation started in San Francisco aimed at promoting health and safety within the nightlife and electronic music community.
Here’s their report:
A red, rectangular pill with a bull stamped on one side and the words “Red Bull” stamped on the other, separated by a score line, was sold in Dallas, TX as MDMA but actually contained N-Ethylpentylone. The sample was sourced in Houston, TX and sold in Dallas, TX…
N-Ethylpentylone, otherwise known as ephylone, is a designer drug of the synthetic cathinone (“bath salts”) class. High doses of N-Ethylpentylone (over approximately 80mg) may potentially be fatal, and are thought to be very toxic – N-Ethylpentylone has been implicated in over 150 deaths since 2014.
Tragic.
Wherever you are in the world, party safely.
