South Africans never cease to amaze with the multitude of ways we’ll find to break the law.
Ever considered biting a police officer’s finger, and then wielding a knife while he waves a gun in your face?
This barman in Brandfort in the Free State has, and over the weekend he was one of two men arrested after an altercation with police turned nasty.
When there is biting involved, I think you’ve crossed over into nasty territory.
Let’s get the details via News24:
Video footage shows one of the accused, a barman, biting a police officer’s finger. The officer then slaps him and points a firearm at him.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo told News24 two constables were attacked while arresting a drunk driver outside the Koffies pub in Voortrekker Street.
Constable Maleke Daniel Moletsane chased one of the accused, Juan Pierre van Vuuren, into the pub, where the altercation seen in the footage took place.
Once the man’s teeth are called into action, it all turns rather chaotic.
In Jozi, they draw swords, and in the Free State, it’s knives and biting.
Here’s the footage:
You can tell by the sound it makes that the police officer’s slap landed.
Van Vuuren and his co-accused have been charged with assault, and van Vuuren was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.
Both have been released on R500 bail, and their next court appearance is set for February 5.
The bar’s owner says she was also hit with a fine of R1 500, because someone inside the premises had a dangerous weapon, but she is consulting with a lawyer regarding the matter.
