There are two men in the world who take everything that Meghan Markle does very personally.
Both of them had high hopes of riding her coattails all the way to the top, and both were disappointed when the Duchess marked them as toxic people and cut them out of her life.
I’m talking, of course, about Piers Morgan – a man whose entire life has been reduced to ‘that time Meghan ghosted him’ – and Thomas Markle, Meghan’s dad, who routinely goes to the tabloids to cash in on his daughter’s fame, and then wonders why she doesn’t trust him (out loud, and also in the tabloids).
He recently appeared in a documentary where he speaks at length about how sad he is while sharing private pictures of his daughter.
Now Piers and Thomas have come together, to console each other, in an interview for Good Morning Britain.
You can watch the full pity party below. If it’s too much for you to handle, a breakdown of what was said will follow:
SAD.
Per Cosmopolitan, perhaps the most jarring aspect of that interview is the threat to continue giving interviews until Meghan contacts him.
Thomas said, “I pretty much will give an interview and wait for 30 days for some kinda answer back. If I don’t get one back, then I’ll try another interview. That’s about the only shot I have….After this interview, if I don’t hear from someone in 30 days, then I will try again. I don’t want to sit in silence in my living room for the rest of my life waiting for someone to get back to me.”
He says that he’s sent letters to Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mom, and Meghan (why are there so many handwritten letters floating about, this isn’t the 1800s?), and is now waiting for a response.
He really plays up the whole ‘abandoned dad’ angle.
Just a thought, but maybe she doesn’t want to talk to him because he’s likely to sell the contents of their conversation to the first tabloid to wave money at him.
In the same interview, Thomas had the audacity to claim, “I don’t think that she is being bullied in any way or any shape because of racism.” (Anyone who uses social media knows this couldn’t be further from the truth).
Yeah, he is in no way qualified to talk about Meghan’s experience of racism or bullying, while in the same breath trying to bully her into contacting him, on national TV.
Other highlights include Thomas telling Harry to “man up” for some reason. He also stated emphatically that Meghan and Harry have hurt the Royal Family, and especially the Queen.
I highly doubt that Liz and Thomas are pals, so he has no way of knowing anything about the Royals.
If you are curious about what’s happening in The Firm (as Princess Diana called them), The Evening Standard reckons that Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice might be distancing themselves from their problematic father, Prince Andrew, and taking up some of the royal duties that Meghan and Harry have abdicated.
Should Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie take over for Harry and Meghan, it will mean some pretty big changes for the two, as presently, they do not work as full-time royals and have no obligation to attend public engagements on behalf of the Queen (although they do, of course, attend events like Royal Ascot).
Instead, Beatrice and Eugenie work regular full-time jobs, with Beatrice employed as the vice president of partnerships and strategy at software company Afiniti, and Eugenie the director at London art gallery Hauser & Wirth.
So Meghan and Harry will be getting “regular” jobs, and the princesses might have to leave their regular jobs for Royal duty.
Meanwhile, I’m sure Thomas has his next interview lined up already, and Piers is just waiting for another opportunity to pen an angry Daily Mail article.
And so, life goes on.
