South Africans may be divided on many issues, but we tend to come together in our anger over the disdain that some taxi drivers show for the rules of the road.
One road raging taxi driver was recently nabbed in a matter of hours, with the help of social media, and this story has also ended badly for the taxi driver in question.
The wheels kicked into motion when the video below was widely shared, showing how many schoolchildren had been crammed into a single vehicle in Bela-Bela, Limpopo.
The taxi is a 14-seater, but go ahead and have a guess how many kids were being transported:

58 children, which is criminally dangerous. Thankfully, the driver has been arrested.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon, as the kids were being driven home from school. Here’s TimesLIVE:
Department spokesman Joel Seabi said the taxi had been impounded.
“The vehicle was not registered with the department for any category of public transportation in the province.
“We call upon parents to ensure the vehicles that transport their loved ones are fully compliant with the law, while law enforcement officials will continue to apply zero tolerance to such law breakers on the roads of the province.”
We should also call on taxi drivers to place greater value on the lives of our children.
The video comes soon after the tragic death of Enock Mpianzi, who drowned on the now infamous Parktown Boys’ High School Grade Eight camp.
It’s become clear that gross negligence was in play on that camp, and the same can be said for the driver of this taxi.
