Some South African drivers clearly get a kick from driving at recklessly high speeds, and it often ends in disaster.
Take the case of alleged woman beater Andrew Turnbull, who was filmed going 260km/h in his Jaguar shortly before a deadly crash that claimed his life, as well as two others.
Thankfully, a video of a motorcycle driver hitting 322km/h in Jozi last year didn’t have a deadly ending, but you really are putting yourself and others at risk when you drive at these speeds.
That’s part of why people are up in arms about the latest high-speed clip doing the rounds, reports News24:
The vehicle’s speedometer increases from the 200km/h range and nudges over 300km/h in the video which was filmed at night from inside the vehicle…
Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar examined the video but the location was not clear.
Clearly, this guy isn’t bothered about the toll roads or the speed traps, and many have pointed out that they believe it was filmed along the N1 in Johannesburg’s Midrand area.
Sheer madness!!!!! Video posted on Instagram. Look at the speed…N1 South Midrand. @MbalulaFikile @TrafficRTMC @TrafficRTMC @GP_CommSafety @AsktheChiefJMPD pic.twitter.com/tSr79DA6c8

Could the driver end up being caught with the help of social media, like that road rage taxi driver last week? Hopefully, although it seems unlikely:
“If the motorist was speeding in the Johannesburg area, there is a possibility that they will receive a notice through the post, because speed cameras are operated on different roads on a 24-hour basis,” said Minnaar.
“If they fail to appear in court, then a warrant of arrest will be authorised by such court.”
The Instagram hashtag “#300kph” features a number of drivers apparently pushing the speed limit in their vehicles.
That’s a real hashtag, which you can explore here for further examples of idiots putting lives in danger.
Everybody, just show some common sense on our roads and we’ll get through this week together.
