South Africans aren’t shy about celebrating the success of our national teams, and for good reason.
After all, we are the Rugby World Cup champions. That does roll off the tongue.
When it comes to some of our less-heralded sporting codes, we can be guilty of overlooking the success of some stars that fly under the radar.
Take Brad Binder, for example. His name will be familiar to those who follow sport in South Africa, but he’s certainly not a household name.
That may be about to change in light of his recent successes, which caught the attention of Carte Blanche:
As a teenager, he took on and beat some of the fastest racers in the country. Now South African Motorcycle Racer Brad Binder is a man on a mission as he prepares for the biggest challenge of his career – facing off against legends of the sport like Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez in this year’s prestigious international MotoGP championship – becoming the first South African entrant in nearly four decades.
His rise to the very top of his field makes for great viewing, so let’s get to it:
His success is all the more remarkable considering the obstacles he has overcome along the way.
If you want to find out more about the man underneath the helmet, there’s a great Business Day interview to get stuck into.
Give it horns, pal.
