If you follow South African news with any regularity, you’ll no doubt have heard about the infamous ‘Rolex gangs’.
Usually, the videos that circulate involve somebody having their belongings stolen, before the crooks make their escape.
In the case of Piet Hoffman, however, there was a far more tragic ending, with the Durban businessman shot seven times in a Sandton hotel basement, dying instantly.
We have become accustomed to shoddy police investigating, but in Piet’s case, his widow believes there may be something more sinister at play.
As Carte Blanche reports, Nicole Hoffmann has uncovered evidence and documents “that suggest her husband’s murder investigation was either bungled by negligent officers or deliberately covered up”.
The staggering amount of errors uncovered throughout the investigative process is unbelievable, and at times it seems that SAPS officers couldn’t be bothered to do even the bare minimum.
We know that their forensic investigative capacity is severely limited, but this points to something far more sinister.
