Do you have no work experience, a love for the royal family, and an eye for detail?
If so, you could be eligible for a job at Windsor Castle.
The Queen is hiring a new “Housekeeping Assistant” and she’s opened applications up to the general public.
The official job listing states that the salary is ‘competitive plus benefits’.
Those benefits include the option of living in, which would put you in very close proximity to Meghan and Harry.
Previous housekeeping or hospitality experience would be an advantage but is not essential. We’re more interested in your proactive approach and ability to tackle new challenges.
With attention to detail you take pride in your work and aim for the highest standards.
Attention to detail is extremely important. Applicants will be required to perform some ‘outside the box’ tests to qualify for the position.
Here’s MSN with Tracey Waterman, head of housekeeping recruitment at the royal household:
One of the tests I like to do, to see if a candidate has potential eye for detail, is to place a dead fly, either in the fireplace or on the carpet. Once the dead fly is placed, I then bring the candidate into the room.
“I lead them into the room, quite slowly, just giving them a chance to glance at the room, have a little look at what we’ve got inside the room,” she added.
“Bringing them to the fireplace, maybe highlighting that we’ve got a beautiful fireplace. At this point I’d expect them to see the dead fly, and hopefully pick it up.”
“It’s a great test, maybe out of 10 people half the candidates will notice the fly. One out of 10 will actually bend down and pick it up, that’s the special housekeeper,” she said.
Totally normal job interview. Nothing to see here.
This is a career pathway in hospitality that will develop your housekeeping skills and expertise. Joining our professional team, you’ll upkeep, clean and care for a wide range of interiors and items, ensuring they’re presented to their very best.
Learning from your colleagues, you’ll gain the specialist professional skills needed, always aiming for the highest standards. And you’ll welcome and take care of guests at functions and events too.
Applications close on January 19, 2020, so you’ll want to get on that if a life of high-end servitude is your dream job.
Just remember to pick up that fly when you find it.
