Over the years, South Africans have had to develop a rather odd sense of humour.
‘Sometimes, all you can do is laugh’ has become a nationwide mantra that’s quickly adopted when we’re deep in the mire, and the latest round of load shedding has brought with it many memes and jokes.
Sadly, when you crunch the numbers, the effects of load shedding on the economy are no laughing matter, but President Ramaphosa has said that there will be no load shedding between December 17 and January 13.
I guess he’s confident that there won’t be further acts of sabotage, then.
Usually, when we feature cartoons taking the mickey out of our country, it’s Zapiro leading the charge. This time around we’re taking a look at Madam & Eve, still going strong all these years later, and their cartoon, titled ‘Hello Darkness My Old Friend’.
From the Daily Maverick:
Cyril’s been shocked by a great lately, despite the fact that he was Jacob Zuma’s understudy from 2014 through to 2018.
I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes at power stations around the country, but when we are foiled because it rained on our coal supplies, you can’t help but scratch your head.
We mentioned earlier that Zapiro wasn’t in a forgiving mood, and he has already taken two shots at Ramaphosa and our government this week.
Well, they say the third time’s the charm, so here’s his Daily Maverick cartoon from today, titled ‘Kicking the Can’:
Again, all we can do is laugh, right?
