18 years ago, I used to trot out a stream of consciousness from my laptop at a table somewhere in Café Caprice, the spiritual home of 2oceansvibe. Caprice had also just been born and we have been on this journey ever since.
Dave from Caprice joined us at our staff lunch this past week. One couldn’t help but reminisce over the days gone by, served by the ‘angels’, as we used to call them. Tiffany, Justine, Jess, Tinks, and the crew – the best ever.
God, we saw some crazy shit back then.
I’m not sure how we got it right, to be honest. We would literally spend entire days at Caprice (and the beach). From start to finish – it really was home.
I even used to have packages delivered there. And we wouldn’t miss a Sunday night if our lives depended on it. Dancing on the bar counter, with waist-high pyramids of vodka Red Bull; and Sox allowing text message song requests from across the room. They truly were the halcyon days, with a myriad of characters. Some are married now. Some with kids. Some dead. Some in jail. Some still managing to play backgammon all day in the corner.
Dave and I emerged relatively unscathed, given the excess over the last 18 years. Both our brands, joined at the hip – still partners and still preaching the universal appeal of sun, drinks, and palm trees.
We laughed over days gone by and our receding hairlines, as we sipped our favourite 2oceansvibe partner brands – Sol, Rupert Wines, Cape Town Gin and Fitch & Leedes. They share our mantra …Work is a sideline. Live the holiday.
2oceansvibe is now on leave until January 6, so enjoy the next few weeks and we will see you on the side.
