Life is meant to be enjoyed, and Fikile Mbalula seems to do a great deal of that.
Nothing wrong there, except for the fact that over the past few years, he’s been shunted around in various ministerial positions, and has failed to deliver in any of them.
Case in point is the current Prasa mess, which wasn’t of Mbalula’s doing, but does now fall under his mandate. All he’s done is talk about how’s he’s going to take action, and right the ship, whilst trains roll into stations burn to a crisp.
It’s tiring, and Zapiro is clearly irked because he nailed Mbalula on that front last week.
The lampooning hasn’t dented Mbalula’s confidence, though, and he appeared on Saturday at Polokwane International Airport in Limpopo for the International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) celebrations.
Never one to make a quiet entrance, Mbalula danced his way in:

It’s laughable, but let the man dance.
Also, let the man give terribly cringeworthy interviews where he tries really hard to be, I dunno, lit?

Cool.
You know what the people would find inspiring? A minister who kept his promises, and devoted time to servicing the people of this country, as opposed to relentlessly tweeting.
On the topic of tweeting, Sunday rolled around and Fikile probably began to fret that he’d been out of the limelight for a matter of hours. He tweeted this, in response to Caster Semenya sharing the below image on Twitter:
Perhaps we should just let Caster handle this one:
She’s pointing to the fact that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) vehicles are the same colour as the shoes.
Do I like the shoes? No. Should Fikile spend less time on Twitter, stirring up nonsense, and more time trying to get things done?
Yes, please, for the sake of everyone in this country.
Here are two tweets that just about sum things up:
On the plus side, it was announced earlier today that Fikile Mbalula has placed Prasa under administration and dissolved its interim board.
This from Fin24:
Bongisizwe Mpondo has been appointed as its administrator.
The secondment of the acting Group CEO, Dr Sishi, has also been withdrawn with immediate effect.
The passenger rail agency has been rocked allegations of administration inefficiencies and corruption involving top executives, with former transport minister Blade Nzimande once suggesting that it had for a long time been used as as ATM.
An attempt to turn around the company has led to suspensions of numerous senior managers implicated in allegations of improper, irregular, corrupt, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
Now he needs to put the right people in place going forward to try and stop the corruption and mismanagement that has all but sunk the state-owned enterprise.
I wouldn’t bet on that.
