We’re gearing up for what could be another scorching summer here in the Mother City, and that means a number of things.
Sunburnt Poms mocking us about the pound to rand exchange rate, rebuttals from us about the Rugby World Cup (don’t hold back), and fires.
We should all spare a thought for the various organisations that battle the flames to keep us safe, and that’s especially true for Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), a non-profit organisation run and managed by a team of volunteers.
Many of those involved hold down full-time jobs, and then give up their off time to ensure that animals, people, and homes are looked after.
Fancy doing something good, whilst enjoying a bloody tasty meal at the same time? Of course, you do – you’re both a good person and a skilled multitasker.
From now until December 20, Butler’s Pizza will be running a #BlackNotBurnt special, where a R5 donation to VWS will score you the new activated charcoal base for your pizza:
The Butler’s pizza bases contain two grams of activated charcoal, and many believe that the black powder stops toxins from being absorbed in the stomach by binding to them.
Whilst more evidence is needed to lock it down, the benefits of activated charcoal are said to include general detoxification, digestive health, gas, bloating, heart health, and anti-ageing.
Given that we’re headed into the silly season, I think the bit about detoxification is going to be vital. Pizza is already one of the world’s premier hangover cures, so throw in an activated charcoal base and you’re on your way to recovery.
Then again, they’re also great for lining the stomach before a big night, but do you really need an excuse to order that cheesy goodness?
A reminder of the Butler’s specials, which run from Sunday to Thursday (except for the Monday special – duh)…
You’ll find all of those deals, and the full range of pizzas to choose from, on the Butler’s Pizza site.
For those wanting to donate a little extra to our hero volunteer firefighters, you will find those details here.
From us here at 2oceansvibe, a cheesy thanks to everyone who fights the flames in order to keep the Mother City safe.
