The marketing dream is to release an advert, and then watch as media outlets around the country give it free airtime.
Here we are, so well played, Nando’s.
Earlier this morning, Nando’s released its latest advert, #Mzansipoli, which is a rather uniquely South African take on Monopoly.
It features all the classics – Eskom, Steinhoff, e-tolls and more – as well as some spicy additions like the race card and a trip to Orania.
Does the game actually exist? I think the point here is to get people talking about these issues, rather than asking where they can buy the board game.
Also, Monopoly ends with somebody flipping the board over in anger about 95% of the time, so if you want to ruin your family holiday, you go right ahead.
Let’s see how #Mzansipoli works:
My only complaint is that no version of Monopoly has ever ended with a family dancing happily around a table.
If you want to track the reaction on Twitter, check out the #Mzansipoli hashtag.
Alright, Chicken Licken – over to you.
