There are some books you read as a kid that you never forget, and Jack London’s The Call of the Wild is one of those.
Published in 1903, the book has stood the test of time, and remains one of those classics that almost any child with a sense of adventure will enjoy.
I guess it was only a matter of time until it was given a big Hollywood budget, then, with the latest film iteration featuring Harrison Ford and a CGI hound as Buck.
More from 20th Century Fox:
Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s.
As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.
As a live-action/animation hybrid, THE CALL OF THE WILD employs cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic–and emotionally authentic–characters.
The film will also star Dan Stevens, Omar Sy, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, and Colin Woodell.
To the trailer:
I’m surprised we haven’t seen more of Harrison Ford playing a grizzled, outdoor type over the years, but such is life.
This one opens on February 21, 2020, and it might be worth parents giving their kid(s) the book to read during these holidays as suitable preparation.
That way, they might just realise that the book is (almost) always better than the movie.
